Investing in T Levels Students – An Industry Game Changer

Investing in T Level Students: A Game-Changer for the Construction Industry.

The construction industry can reap significant benefits by investing in T Level students.

What is a T Level?

T Levels, introduced in 2020, are two-year technical qualifications providing an alternative to A Levels and apprenticeships. Co-designed with employers, they combine 80% classroom learning with 20% practical experience through a 315-hour industry placement. Equivalent to 3 A Levels, T Levels equip students with industry-ready skills in sectors like construction, healthcare, and digital, creating a pipeline of skilled professionals.

Why T Levels  Should Matter to Construction

Construction design consultancies are discovering the immense value of T Levels. These programs address skills shortages by offering businesses access to motivated, well-trained students proficient in areas like Building Information Modelling (BIM), CAD, and sustainability practices. Students bring fresh perspectives and technical knowledge, contributing directly to live projects.

T Level placements also allow businesses to evaluate talent before committing to long-term hires, reducing recruitment costs and ensuring smoother onboarding. Their skills and enthusiasm align with the sector’s growing need for innovation and greener practices, helping companies meet net-zero targets and stay competitive.

By engaging with T Level students, consultancies strengthen their local communities and support workforce sustainability, creating a steady pipeline of professionals ready to tackle industry challenges. Additionally, businesses enhance their reputation as socially responsible employers, attracting clients, partners, and talent.

Reinstating Government Support

The UK government’s withdrawal of financial incentives for T Level placements has added challenges for employers. The construction industry must lobby for the reinstatement of these grants to address skills shortages and foster future talent development. Restoring funding would benefit students, businesses, and the sector’s growth.

Conclusion

Taking on Design, Surveying, and Planning T Level students is a strategic investment. These placements bridge skills gaps, drive innovation, and advance sustainability goals, delivering long-term benefits for businesses, students, and the construction industry. By embracing T Levels, the sector can cultivate a skilled, motivated workforce ready to build a brighter future.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers!

Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers! January 2025

We had the privilege of visiting The Folkestone School For Girls to speak with students passionate about exploring careers in engineering.

With engineering spanning countless industries, we are always excited to share insights into what we do at INVVU, from engineering and design to construction project management, and how our work positively impacts daily life in our communities.

After discussing our projects and disciplines, we set the students a hands-on challenge: designing a casing to protect an egg using only masking tape, paper straws, and their imagination.

The goal? Survive a drop from shoulder height! 🥚✨

The results were incredible: 4 out of 5 designs kept their eggs intact, showcasing thoughtful design and problem-solving. Even the design that didn’t succeed was impressive in concept, with time constraints being the main hurdle.

Seeing over 20 young women so genuinely engaged and curious about engineering was truly inspiring, it’s a promising sign for the future of our industry! 🌟

Thank you Mr Konrad E. for making us all feel so welcome.

Restoring Exquisite Victoria Station Ceramic Maps

Craftsmanship and Collaboration bring exquisite Victorian Station maps back to life for all to enjoy.

Two exquisite ceramic Victorian maps at London’s Victoria Station have recently undergone meticulous restoration, preserving the rich history of the London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway, a gateway to the south coast, dating back to 1899.

Originally created in the Victorian era, these maps illustrate London’s layout, showcasing the grandeur and complexity of the city and surrounding network in the 19th Century, evoking memories of journeys to stations long since disappeared.

The restoration project was undertaken by expert conservators from Restore London Ltd, who employed traditional techniques to meticulously clean, repair, and enhance the visual appeal of the maps. Each tile was carefully hand-cleaned, with missing tiles cast to match the originals, and damaged areas restored to maintain authenticity while rejuvenating these historical artifacts.

Significant portions of the original material, including the granite sections, had suffered extensive deterioration over the years. To achieve the closest possible match, the Restore team conducted thorough research using historic photographs from Historic England. This research led to a detailed process of sampling and approvals between Restore London and Conservation Architect Benedict O’Looney, resulting in a seamless and faithful restoration.

Visitors to Victoria Station can now admire these stunning cartographic works of art, which not only preserve London’s past but also enhance the station’s vibrant atmosphere. The restored maps stand as a testament to the craftsmanship of the original artisans and the dedication of those involved in their preservation, making them a valuable addition to the city’s cultural heritage.

INVVU Construction Consultants, in collaboration with Network Rail, the Railway Heritage Trust, GTR Govia Thameslink, Conservation Architect Benedict O’Looney, and Restore London, ensured that every colour, texture, and detail was painstakingly restored to bring these Victorian maps and their surroundings back to their former glory.

This project has been a fantastic experience, and we extend our sincere thanks to GTR Govia Thameslink, Network Rail and the Railway Heritage Trust for their unwavering support and commitment to preserving the UK’s rail heritage. Their dedication and funding made this restoration possible, and we are proud to be part of this incredible effort to conserve architectural treasures for future generations.

To further commemorate these restorations and share information about their history, Network Rail plan to install a Blue Heritage Plaque, which will sit proudly alongside the maps.

London Office

INVVU Expands with New London Office to Strengthen Client Connections and Enhance Service Delivery  – October 2024

INVVU Construction Consultants, a flourishing company rooted in the picturesque Kent countryside (Sellindge, near Ashford), is thrilled to announce the launch of its new office in the heart of London. This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone in INVVU’s journey, seamlessly connecting its rural beginnings with the dynamic opportunities offered by the big city.

Founded in 2017, INVVU has rapidly grown from a small, dedicated team of 12 experienced engineers, designers and project managers into a formidable force in the construction industry, now boasting a talented team of 26. Renowned for its quality of service, INVVU has successfully competed against some of the industry’s leading firms.

The company’s success is built on a strong professional work ethic, extensive experience across all sectors, and a commitment to fostering strong client relationships within a collaborative and friendly culture — values nurtured in the tranquil surroundings of its headquarters at The Barn in Sellindge.

With increasing demand for its services and expertise, establishing a presence in London represents a natural evolution for INVVU.

“Our rural origins have always been integral to our identity,” said Managing Director Phil Johnson FICE. “We’re proud of our beginnings, and The Barn will remain our main office. However, expanding to London allows us to better serve our clients, attract top talent, and explore new opportunities. It’s an exciting chapter in our growth.”

Located at York House on Pentonville Road, near Kings Cross and St Pancras International, INVVU’s new London office positions the company at the centre of one of the world’s most vibrant business hubs. This move will enable INVVU to strengthen relationships with key partners, enhance service offerings, and provide a more convenient location for client meetings and collaborations.

Despite this significant expansion, INVVU remains deeply committed to its roots. The company will continue to operate from The Barn, investing in the local community and staying true to the values that have driven its success.

“We believe in blending the best of both worlds,” added Director Kevin Hogwood. “Our rural roots have given us a unique perspective, shaped by the calm and focus of our environment. We’re eager to bring that perspective — and perhaps a bit of that calm — to London. As we embrace new opportunities, we remain steadfast in upholding the values that have guided us from the start.”
