Planning Success! The Elephant House, Howletts Wild Animal Park – Kent

🐘 A big milestone for a very special project

We’re delighted to share that INVVU has successfully secured planning permission for a new Elephant House at  Howletts Wild Animal Park  in Kent.

This has been a unique and rewarding project to be involved in, helping to deliver proposals that will support the long-term care of one of the UK’s most significant elephant herds, while contributing to the future of an internationally recognised conservation and wildlife destination.

Projects of this nature involve far more than submitting a planning application. Working alongside a highly skilled consultant team, including:

  • DHA Planning Group
  • Native Ecology
  • Hill-Wood & Co (Kent) Ltd
  • Emico Ltd
  • Tree Fabrik
  • Monson Engineering Ltd
  • AN Surveys
  • JC White Geomatics Ltd
  • Ashdown Site Investigations Ltd
  • Kent Sustainability
  • Canterbury Archaeological Trust

…we carefully considered a wide range of environmental, technical and operational factors to develop a proposal that supports both the needs of the animals and the long-term aspirations of the park.

Huge thanks and kudos to our Senior Design and Project Manager, Lyndsey Cann, who has been at the heart of this project from the outset. Projects of this scale and complexity don’t happen without a huge amount of hard work behind the scenes, and Lyndsey’s commitment, technical knowledge and determination have been instrumental in getting this planning permission secured.

The success of this application is a testament to the collaborative approach taken by everyone involved.

Securing approval with just ten planning conditions is a fantastic outcome, particularly given the scale, sensitivity and complexity of the project. Of those conditions, only one is required pre-commencement, seven are standard compliance conditions, one relates to pre-occupation requirements and one relates to Biodiversity Net Gain monitoring.

For a project of this nature, that represents an exceptionally positive result and reflects the quality of the submission and supporting technical work.

We’d like to thank our client, Howletts Wild Animal Park, together with the wider consultant team and all those involved in helping bring the proposals to life and achieve this positive outcome.

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to work on a project quite like this. Knowing that the outcome will contribute to the welfare of these magnificent animals, while supporting conservation and education for years to come, makes this approval particularly rewarding
